Liam Neeson has been busy this year after starring in Ice Road: Vengeance and The Naked Gun, but 15 years ago he starred in a critically panned fantasy thriller that’s set to leave streaming soon. Neeson stars alongside Sam Worthington (Avatar: The Way of Water) and Ralph Fiennes (Conclave) in Clash of the Titans, the 2010 sword & sorcery epic that tells the story of Perseus, a demigod who battles the minions of Hades to stop them from conquering both Earth and the Underworld. Clash of the Titans is currently streaming on HBO Max, but the streamer has announced it will leave the platform at the end of the month, on November 30.
In addition to Neeson, Worthington, and Fiennes, Clash of the Titans also stars Mads Mikkelsen as Draco, Liam Cunningham as Solon, and Nicholas Hoult as Eusebios. The film was despised by critics and audiences alike, which led to it earning Rotten scores of 27% from reviewers and 40% from fans on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. Despite these poor reviews, Clash of the Titans achieved extraordinary box-office success. The fantasy film grossed nearly $500 million at the box office on a reported budget of $125 million. It’s even been compared to the God of War video game franchise, largely because of its premise of a demigod taking on members of the pantheon.
Clash of the Titans is a remake of the 1981 film of the same name written by Beverley Cross, who earned a writing credit on the 2010 film as well. Travis Beacham, Phil Hay, and Matt Manfredi wrote the script for Clash of the Titans, and Louis Leterrier stepped behind the camera to direct the film. Leterrier is best known for directing The Transporter movies with Jason Statham and Fast X, and he’s even returning to direct the eleventh and final Fast & Furious movie.
‘Clash of the Titans’ Isn’t the Only Movie Leaving HBO Max
In addition to Clash of the Titans, HBO has also announced that all Hunger Games movies will leave the platform at the end of the month. This comes while Lionsgate is hard at work filming the next installment in the franchise, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Split, the twisty psychological thriller starring James McAvoy, will also leave HBO Max on November 30. The film was written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, and it even has a sequel, Glass, that’s not streaming anywhere.
Be sure to watch Clash of the Titans before it leaves HBO Max on November 30 and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
