It’s a good time to be a millennial. With the next chapter in stories like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Scrubs just around the corner, it’s clearly our generation’s time to shine on the small screen. Additionally, one of the most classic millennial shows of all is on the way for a limited engagement, and we finally have an idea of when it will drop onto Disney+. Although life is often unfair, there’s nothing unfair about the release window for the Malcolm in the Middle reboot, which, in a recent report, was announced to be arriving in the spring. That means there are just a few months to go before audiences find out what the Wilkerson family has been up to in the years since the original title went off the air in 2006 after a successful seven-season run.
Over the course of four episodes, the reboot will invite audiences to not just catch up with the familiar faces that they loved so dearly in the original production, but to meet the families that the original characters now have. With Frankie Muniz reprising his role as the titular genius, the series will also welcome back direct family members Hal (Bryan Cranston), Lois (Jane Kaczmarek), Reese (Justin Berfield), and Francis (Christopher Masterson). Youngest brother Dewey will this time be played by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark as the original actor, Erik Per Sullivan, decided not to come back for the follow-up. Introduced in the fourth season, the Wilkerson’s youngest child, Jamie, will be played by Anthony Timpano.
Although the family at the center of the chaos might be the driving force behind the series, the supporting characters helped make Malcolm in the Middle the beloved production that it quickly became. Thankfully, we’ll be given the chance to see those faces again, with Craig Lamar Taylor reprising his role as Malcolm’s childhood bestie Stevie Kenarban, and Gary Anthony Williams as his on-screen father Abe. Finally, Craig Feldsbar (David Anthony Higgins) is also joining the team and will likely still be lusting after Lois.
‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Star Shares Promising Words for the Reboot
Cranston has been incredibly outspoken about what delights await audiences in the Malcolm in the Middle reboot, previously teasing a “heartfelt” and “funny” production. In a different interview, he gave a glimpse into what it was like getting back to the life of Hal, sharing, “I’m asked to do physical comedy on that show and I realized, ‘Oh, it’s been 20 years since I did that.’ I have a few extra restrictions now, so it’s like I’m crawling around. I’m, of course, naked again. That’s no surprise, no surprise at all.” We’d expect nothing less.
