Jason Statham fans need to prepare for a great day on November 20. Statham has turned in many iconic action performances over the years, but one franchise that he’s returned to several times just got an exciting streaming update. Statham starred as Lee Christmas in four Expendables movies between 2010 and 2023. At the time of writing, the first three Expendables movies are only streaming on Pluto TV, and the critically panned fourth installment is only available on the Roku Channel. However, Peacock has announced that all four Expendables movies will begin streaming on the platform on November 20.
The first Expendables movie, written and directed by Sylvester Stallone, earned scores of 41% from critics and 64% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. Its sequel, which Stallone also wrote but passed directorial duties to Simon West, improved on both of these scores. It sits at 68% from critics and 67% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Things went in the opposite direction for The Expendables 3, which rests at Rotten scores of 32% from critics and 48% from audiences on the aggregator site. Patrick Hughes directed the third Expendables movie with a script from Stallone, Creighton Rothenberger, and Katrin Benedikt.
The Expendables 4, also titled Expend4bles, was loathed by critics, but the film found an audience with those who saw it. The fourth Expendables movie sits at a franchise-low 14% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but a franchise-high 69% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. Still, this moderately warming audience reception didn’t stop Expend4bles from flopping at the box office. It grossed only $37 million globally against a $100 million budget, leaving it more than $150 million short of its break-even point.
The Expendables Franchise May Be Coming Back From the Dead
It seemed like The Expendables franchise was dead in the water after the critical and commercial failure of The Expendables 4, but a recent update last week has left many believing that there will be another project. Lionsgate announced that it has struck a deal with Millennium Media for the rights to both The Expendables and the Rambo franchises. Fans were well aware of the Noah Centineo-led Rambo prequel movie in the works, but this acquisition likely means that either another movie or a new TV show is coming from the world of The Expendables.
Be sure to watch all four Expendables movies once they arrive on Peacock on November 20 and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
