Lewis Tan broke out to a new level of stardom a few years ago thanks to his role in Mortal Kombat, but now he’s back to headline an action thriller that just got an exciting new look. As part of our Collider’s Exclusive Preview event, we are happy to partner with Bad Film Productions and Capstone Studios to debut a new image and a sneak peek from Tan’s new action movie, Wildcat, which is coming to theaters on November 25. The film follows an ex-black ops team who reunite to pull off a desperate heist and save an eight-year-old girl’s life. They have only 12 hours to navigate the lethal streets amidst a citywide riot, pay a large ransom, and frame a dangerous criminal organization.

In addition to Lewis Tan in a leading role, Wildcat also stars Kate Beckinsale (Underworld franchise), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Tom Bennett (House of the Dragon), Alice Krige (Star Trek: First Contact), Edmund Kingsley (The Witcher), and Matt Willis (Missing You). As part of our preview week event at Collider, we also had the chance to chat with Tan about the movie, how it differs from his past projects, and what it was like getting to work with such a strong cast. When asked how working on a more grounded project like Wildcat differs from the massive world of fantasy IP like Mortal Kombat, Tan spoke about how it allows a more dramatic side that can be “harder to achieve” in certain genres:

“Certainly a refreshing change. As much as I love an epic action fantasy with a huge IP and fanbase, my team and I were looking for a grounded script, something gritty with heart, action rooted in character and reality, something juicy that can show a deeper dramatic side that sometimes, in those big franchises, can be harder to achieve. Wildcat had all those qualities and more, reminded me of those London gangster films like Snatch, but with a more dramatic tone, shot in the heart of London, make you laugh, make you cry, and hopefully, when the action does take off, it hits hard because you care about the characters journey.”

To make things a little fun, we also asked Tan if his character from Mortal Kombat, Cole Young, was locked in a room with his character from Wildcat, Roman, who would come out on top? Tan took things in a different direction, admitting that he thought they wouldn’t fight at all:

“Roman in Wildcat was trained as a solider. He has a little crazy side to him but a very pure heart. He thinks very strategically and uses whatever he can find as a weapon. There is a great fight scene in this, using many different props that really stands out to me as my personal favorite for this film (You will know when you see it), whereas Cole Young in Mortal Kombat (once he unlocked his powers) is getting used to learning how to use them while coming to terms with the fate of earthrealm and the tournament, so very different mindsets, but they would probably get along if they ever met, Roman has a better sense of humor, I’ll give him that, could be the London street wit, sharp tongue, had that effect on him.”

‘Wildcat’s Lewis Tan Dishes on Working With ’Game of Thrones’ Star Charles Dance

Tan co-stars in Wildcat alongside Charles Dance, the legendary actor who is famed for his role as Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones. Tan went into detail about who Dance plays in the film, as well as what made him the perfect choice to play the villain, “Charles and I have one of my favorite scenes in the film together. His body of work speaks volumes for what kind of actor he is, so I expected nothing less, and he really delivered. He plays one of the most notorious crime lords, so we needed someone with a presence that demands attention. He was focused and intense, and had some iconic speeches which really cut like a knife.” Dance is, by all accounts, a delightful presence on set. Tan spoke to his professionalism while the cameras were rolling, and how charming he was off set, saying, “After the scenes were over, he was charming and funny. We were sworn enemies in the film but had a good laugh off set.”
