Wicked: For Good has already delivered a major milestone ahead of its debut weekend in theaters. Fandango has confirmed that the highly anticipated musical fantasy is now the platform’s biggest first-day ticket preseller of 2025. According to MovieWeb and Fandango’s announcement, tickets went live on October 8, 2025, and by the following day, Wicked: For Good had already become the site’s best first-day ticket pre-seller of 2025, with advance sales surpassing Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle, Superman, and Taylor Swift‘s The Official Release Party of a Showgirl.
The film is now also the highest PG-rated ticket seller on the platform, as it has overtaken the place of past musical hits, Frozen 2, Beauty and the Beast, and even its own predecessor, Wicked. The demand for the upcoming fantasy film is so strong that Universal has introduced a special Collector’s Pack for early buyers that pairs a limited-edition 24″ x 12″ sketch poster of Paul Tazewell’s costume design with a ticket to the film. This marketing strategy will further incentivize fans who are hoping to get their hands on opening-weekend seats. There is also a charity initiative tied to the rollout. Audiences can choose to round up their ticket purchase to the nearest dollar, using Fandango’s Round-Up feature. The additional amount will be donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
‘Wicked: For Good’ Will Continue Elphaba and Glinda’s Story
As Wicked: For Good’s record-breaking pre-sales continue to build the film’s momentum, the director has also stepped in to talk about what audiences can expect from the sequel. The upcoming chapter will focus on the consequences of the choices Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) made at the end of the first film.
In the original film, Elphaba and Glinda formed an unlikely friendship as college roommates, only to be separated by conflicting loyalties and a clash with the Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum). The sequel will pick up after their heartbreaking farewell. As per ScreenRant, the director Jon M. Chu has explained that the first movie set up a fairy tale world, while the sequel will be about reality, in the following words:
“Movie one was about this fairytale, was about the things that we’re taught by watching movies, or reading books, or what our parents taught us when we’re young. That’s a great thing you have on a calendar, what you tweet out, or what you have on a t-shirt, or… but that’s not reality. Movie two is reality. Movie two is what happens after.”
Wicked is currently streaming on Peacock, and Wicked: For Good arrives in theaters this weekend.
