The holidays are a time for emerging from your wintery cocoon and spending time with loved ones — whatever that may look like for you. For some, that means plenty of family time and, sometimes, the moments spent together begin to look a little bit less like a Hallmark card and more like a horror movie. Today, as part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event, we’re excited to show our readers a brand-new look at Jim Jarmusch’s return to filmmaking with Father Mother Sister Brother. Featuring an all-star lineup that includes performances from Adam Driver (House of Gucci), legendary musician Tom Waits, Cate Blanchett (Thor: Ragnarok), Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory), and others, the anthology film is set for a release just in time for the merry-making season on December 24, 2025.
Our fresh look at the winner of the Golden Lion Best Film at this year’s Venice Film Festival features Driver and Bialik’s characters from the “Father” portion of the film. We know that each chapter will take place in a different corner of the world and, by the looks of it, the Star Wars and Blossom alumni are stuck during some of the most brutal days of a New Jersey winter. Together, they stand in a snow-covered driveway, looking at the porch of the house that they’re either about to enter or running away from, with their characters matching in maroon outfits.
Beyond New Jersey and the tale of Bialik, Driver, and Waits’ characters, audiences can expect to travel the globe to Dublin and Paris. Each chapter of the film sets out to uncover the sometimes tumultuous bonds between loved ones that shape the people we become. Additional cast members include Charlotte Rampling (Dune), Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread), Indya Moore (Pose), and Luka Sabbat (The Dead Don’t Die).
Jim Jarmusch’s Brief Break From Filmmaking
Father Mother Sister Brother marks Jarmusch’s return to his cinematic work following a six-year hiatus. The last time audiences saw his work in theaters was back in 2019 when he unleashed his zombie comedy, The Dead Don’t Die, with leading performances from Driver, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, and more. The director has long explored a multitude of genres, picking up the camera and delivering something unique for everyone, whether it be a drama, horror, comedy, action flick, or thriller. Along with helming, he often pens his projects, which he also did for Father Mother Sister Brother, putting his incredibly unique voice into every production.
Check out our exclusive new look at Father Mother Sister Brother above and watch the family dynamics play out on the big screen when the film arrives in cinemas on December 24. Stay tuned at Collider for more from our winter preview series all week.
