A pair of bowlers posted big scores in voting for Monroe County Region Athlete of the Week for Feb. 16-22.
Milan’s Maggie Smith won with 21,717 votes while Chloe Orris of St. Mary Catholic Central taking second with 16,109.

State Line Christian boys basketball player Jackson Baumker (2927) and Ida wrestler Braxton Shaffer (1,786) also garnered more than 1,000.
There were a total of 43,300 votes cast.

You can now make your choice for the Feb. 23-March 1 Athlete of the Week. Polls will remain open through 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, March. 4.

Monroe County Region Athlete of the Week
Addison Burgei, Gibraltar Carlson girls basketball: Netted 15 points to spark a win over Lincoln Park.
Nick Coberley, Bedford boys basketball: Hit the winning shot at the buzzer to give the Mules a District win over Trenton then led his team with 11 points in the semifinals.

Jason Downs, New Boston Huron wrestling: Recorded technical fall in state quarterfinals and a pin in the finals.
Jordan Godfrey, Flat Rock boys basketball: Delivered a key 3-pointer in the third quarter and finished with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals in a District win over Airport then tied for game-high scoring honors with 16 against Jefferson in the semifinals.
Elle Huffman, New Boston Huron girls basketball: Drilled five 3-pointers and scored 22 points in a win over Garden City.
Madleen Hussein, Flat Rock girls basketball: Celebrated Senior Night with 35 points and 7 rebounds in a win over Dearborn Fordson.

Adela Illes, SMCC girls basketball: Collected 19 points and 11 rebounds in a victory over Ida.
Ava Johnson, Dundee girls basketball: Registered her first five points of the season during a Senior Night victory.
Josslyn Jones, Monroe girls basketball: Scored 11 points as her team snapped a six-game losing streak by beating Milan.
Austin Nowak, State Line Christian boys basketball: Scored 25 of his career-high 30 points in the first half of a win in the Michigan Association of Christian Schools state semifinals.
Rocco Redmon, Dundee wrestling: Posted pins in the state quarterfinals, semifinals and finals to help the Vikings win their ninth consecutive title.

Caden Schroyer, Whiteford boys basketball: Racked up 15 points and 15 rebounds in the District semifinals.

Brody St. John, Summerfield boys basketball: Came through with the game-winning shot in the District semifinals.
David Sweeney, Erie Maason boys basketball: Notched 16 points in the District semifinals.
Jacob Towne, Ida boys basketball: Recorded 22 points and 14 rebounds during a District semifinal victory over Grosse Ile.
Makenzie Wolfe, Summerfield girls basketball: Scored 17 points against Lenawee Christian.
