State-ranked Georgetown beat a game but outmatched Weiss team in a showdown last Friday of District 23-5A volleyball’s leaders, and although Eagles senior Amelia Albright didn’t drive the team bus, she did just about everything else in the 25-18, 25-12, 25-23 victory.
Albright’s skills were on full display for the visiting Eagles, as she finished with 12 kills and hit .391 along with 25 assists, two blocks, seven digs, three aces and an inspirational finish to the match. Georgetown won the first two sets, but the young and talented Wolfpack raced out to a 13-3 lead in the third set and were up 22-19. But the Florida commitment had a kill, then served a pair of aces and then had two assists to rally the Eagles for the win.

“Amelia is just incredible,” Georgetown coach Jenny Richardson said. “I coach her firmly – she is so gifted, you don’t want to over-coach but to provide insight and perspective on details. She just works so hard all the time, together we focus on what we need most. She is the best player I have coached, perhaps ever.”

Georgetown opened the match with a 5-0 run as Albright had the first kill of the night and added assists on kills by Claire Berryman and Taylor Vett. Berryman finished with eight kills and Vett had five. Mallory Miller had seven kills and 14 digs and Jordan Pitkethley had 15 digs.
Weiss, meanwhile, was led by sophomore Deja Carroll’s 17 kills. Setter Ava Jackson continues to recover from an ankle injury that has limited her jump setting and mobility, but she still managed 25 assists and nine digs. Madison Ancira had 11 digs and Carrington Nichols and Scarlett Nachampassak had nine each.

Weiss fell to 2-1 in district play and 22-12 on the season, but coach Karen Huffman said she’s pleased with how her young team is developing.
“We have been overcoming a few injuries, but the team is really playing together,” Huffman said. “Georgetown is a strong team and we are working to continue our improvement.”

Hendrickson moved into second place, tied with Weiss, by beating Glenn in a see-saw match 19-25, 27-25, 25-17, 16-25, 15-13. Eva Marie Thompson led the Hawks with 17 kills and Amaya Bynum added nine. Jaselle Manning and Caroline Robbins had four aces each for Hendrickson while Manning added 25 digs. Kenna Braden had 26 assists and Addison Schaefer had 16 more. The Hawks had swept Pflugerville earlier in the week and Glenn had beaten Elgin.

McCallum swept the week, beating Crockett and Cedar Creek, to improve to 25-11 overall and 4-0 in district play. The Knights beat Crockett 25-12, 25-8, 25-15 and then defeated Cedar Creek 25-13, 25-16, 25-9. Mia Davis had 17 assists and served four aces while Piper Adair had 10 kills with 12 digs and two blocks. Liz Peables had 17 digs and three aces. … Defending district champion Anderson lost a four-set first match to the Knights last week but rebounded to blast Cedar Creek 25-11, 25-15, 26-24 as Juliet Anderson had 13 kills, four aces and hit .480.

Around District 24-6A:
Rouse beat East View 25-12, 25-18, 25-9 as Avery Ralston had 13 kills. Rouse leads the district over Vandegrift and Vista Ridge. Vandegrift swept Vista Ridge 25-20, 25-23, 26-24 behind Audrey Hedlund’s 12 kills and Stella Mark’s 10. Kelsi Watson led Vista Ridge with 14 kills.

Around District 25-6A: Round Rock went out of district to sweep WPC power St. Andrew’s 25-15, 25-22, 25-14. Freshman setter Kylie Cavil led the Dragons with 28 assists while Brooklyn Bradley and Ela Cubukcu smacked 10 kills each. … Lake Travis swept Cedar Ridge 25-9, 25-16, 25-18 as Maggie Wheeler and Gentry Barker had nine kills each. Tatum Wilson had nine service aces and 15 assists.
Around District 26-6A:
Jazzlyn Hepburn notched 24 kills with 15 digs as Bowie beat Hays 25-22, 25-23, 24-26, 25-21. Lyla Rosas added 16 digs while Mya Adkins had 30 assists and three aces. Addison Fey had four blocks and three aces. Hays was led by Naliyah Griffin and Saige Wendel, both of whom had 10 kills. Wendel also had five blocks. … Johnson swept Del Valle as Leighton Cummins had 18 kills and Mya Ibarra added 13 kills while both Aubrei Brewer and Hannah West had 16 assists each. … Johnson beat Bowie last Friday, and Bowie faces Dripping Springs Tuesday night in a big district match.
