After the Texas Longhorns remarkable Sweet 16 run in the NCAA Tournament, sophomore Nic Codie seemingly announced he was staying at UT. But two weeks later, the forward has entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Codie is one of the players that bridged the gap between former head coach Rodney Terry and current coach Sean Miller. He played in 43 games at Texas, averaging 3.0 points per game, 2.1 rebounds and 0.5 assists.

The Dallas native’s best stint with Texas was in this year’s March Madness. In three games, he scored 17 points and had eight rebounds. He also dished out six assists and made an impact on defense with two steals. His best game came in Texas‘ Sweet Sixteen victory over Gonzaga, scoring a season-high 12 points with four rebounds.
After the loss to Purdue, Codie seemed excited about his future as a Longhorn and what Texas had coming back next year. “I’ll be here next year,” Codie said. “Bo Ogden, Austin Goosby, those are my guys. We got Matas coming back, Cam coming back, Declan (Duru), Lewis (Obiorah).”
A member of Texas’ class of 2024 out of Carrollton (Texas) Newman Smith, Codie was ranked as the No. 65 overall prospect, the No. 7 power forward, and the No. 1 player in Texas in the Rivals Industry Ranking.
