Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has hit bowlers around the park in the IPL. He has done it in Under-19 cricket, domestic matches and India A games as well. The 15-year-old is already being spoken about as a player who could become next big thing in cricket. But for all the runs and sixes, perhaps nothing compares to receiving an India jersey.

Millions play cricket in India and many dream of representing the country. Only a handful get the chance to wear the blue jersey. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has now joined that group of lucky few after receiving his India kit ahead of the upcoming T20I series against Ireland.

The teenager, who recently earned his first senior India call-up, spoke about the moment and said it fulfilled the dream that first drew him to the game.

At 15 years and 71 days, Sooryavanshi has become the youngest player selected in India’s senior men’s squad, surpassing the record set by Sachin Tendulkar 36 years ago.

Tendulkar made his India debut against Pakistan in 1989 at the age of 16 years and 205 days and remains the youngest Indian to play a senior international match. If Sooryavanshi takes the field during the upcoming tour, he will become the youngest player to debut for India in men’s international cricket.

Speaking in a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Sooryavanshi said:

“Words cannot explain it. The reason I picked up the bat from day one and went to the ground for practice: that dream is fulfilled now. The biggest step in that journey was completed today. I truly cannot put this feeling into words.
