For Bayless, Oklahoma’s victory delivered precisely the kind of rivalry result he had hoped to see. Bayless took the opportunity to make his feelings about Texas crystal clear, reminding fans that his dislike of the program goes back to his childhood.
“Texas has to be sick about losing that game. Love it. Have hated Texas since I was old enough to understand what the University of Texas was, maybe 3 years old in Oklahoma City. I have always loved the smell of burnt orange,” Bayless wrote in X.

Week 6 of the college football season delivered several surprising results, and Texas’ defeat to Oklahoma was undoubtedly among the most notable. The Longhorns entered the Red River Rivalry undefeated and ranked No. 1 nationally, but their disappointing performance in the second half ultimately cost them their perfect record.

The annual rivalry matchup produced a dramatic finish at the Cotton Bowl, where Oklahoma battled back from a 17-7 halftime deficit to secure a 27-24 win over its bitter rival.
Texas appeared to have control of the game early, but a series of costly mistakes allowed the Sooners to turn the game around. The defeat also drew sharp criticism from Emmanuel Acho, who questioned how the Longhorns could squander such a promising position.
During the first half, Texas quarterback Arch Manning managed to handle Oklahoma’s defensive pressure. However, the situation changed dramatically after halftime as the quarterback threw two interceptions in the fourth quarter, his first two interceptions of the season, and both proved costly to the Longhorns’ chances of securing the win.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma secured the victory despite producing only 238 total yards of offense. Quarterback John Mateer completed 18 of 26 passes for 155 yards without a touchdown or an interception.
