Polly Pocket has gotten a decidedly sophisticated makeover, with Mattel collaborating with fine jeweler Nadine Ghosn to coincide with the toy company’s 80th anniversary.

On Wednesday, Nov. 12, Mattel unveiled the collaboration, which features a number of Polly Pocket-themed charms, necklaces and earrings rendered in 18-karat gold with pink sapphire gemstone detailing. Complex reports that prices range from $7,850 for a single charm to $38,650 for a necklace.

Speaking to Women’s Wear Daily, the jeweler said she drew from her own collection of Polly Pocket dolls to get inspiration for the nostalgic collection. (As Complex notes, both the jewelry and Polly Pocket were born in the same year — 1989.)

“Yes, I have many vintage Polly Pockets from my childhood, so I started from that — taking a Polly Pocket from back in the day and being inspired by looks, hair and perfected the bend,” Ghosn told WWD.

The year-long collaborative process has brought the spirit of Polly Pocket “to life,” Meredith Norrie, vice president, global consumer products and experiences at Mattel, told WWD in a statement.

“Polly Pocket has always symbolized possibility and self-expression in miniature form,” Norrie said in the statement. “This collaboration brings that spirit to life and celebrates Nadine’s distinctive artistry applied to Polly’s legacy.”

Polly Pocket is the brainchild of Chris Wiggs, a father who, in 1980s England, first fashioned a miniature dollhouse for his daughter out of a make-up compact. English toy manufacturer Bluebird Toys eventually licensed the concept from Wiggs, producing the first wave of compact-like playsets that ’80s and ’90s kids will remember. Since 1998, Mattel has owned both Bluebird and Polly Pocket, and the toys have gotten increasingly detailed and elaborate over the decades.

At the same time, an international community of collectors has formed online, with some rare sets selling for upwards of $1,900.
