Oklahoma Sooners head coaches Brent Venables and Skip Johnson both received good news on Wednesday evening.
2028 dual-sport talent Colton Fitzgibbon announced his commitment to Oklahoma football and baseball, according to On3 and Rivas Hayes Fawcett. Fitzgibbon plays wide receiver on the gridiron and centerfield on the diamond. Fawcett reports that Fitzgibbon has the fastest 60-yard dash in the country, clocking 6.26. The 60-yard dash is the speed test run by baseball players.

Fitzgibbon, a 6-foot, 175-pound prospect out of San Ramon Valley High School in Danville, California, received his Oklahoma football offer in August and also held offers from Oregon, California, Oregon State, and others. In his sophomore season last year, he caught 44 passes for 805 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Rivals rates Fitzgibbon as the No. 71 overall wide receiver in the 2028 cycle and the No. 30 player in California. Per 247Sports, he’s the No. 62 wide receiver in the class, and the No. 35 overall player in the Golden State. He’s yet to receive a national ranking from either publication.
On the diamond, Fitzgibbon is ranked among the best outfield prospects in the 2028 class. Baseball America ranks him as the No. 31 overall prospect. USA Baseball selected him to take part in its 2026 16U/17U National Team Development Program.

As a left-hander, Fitzgibon is projected to primarily play center field, where he can use his athleticism and strong arm. Perfect Game testing revealed he has a 90-mph outfield throw and a 92-mph exit velocity.
He will be a big addition for an Oklahoma baseball squad that’s coming off a National Championship. For the football squad, he will be Oklahoma’s fourth commit in the 2028 class. On Tuesday, four-star linebacker Jay Schell committed, and earlier this month, OU added Bixby (Okla.) four-star tight end Connor Arant. They all join four-star quarterback Trey Tagliaferri, who was Oklahoma’s first commit in the 2028 recruiting class.
As far as the 2027 class goes, Oklahoma football has 27 verbal commitments, headlined by defensive back Gabriel Osbourne Jr., offensive tackle Kaeden Penny, tight end Seneca Driver, linebacker Cooper Witten, and offensive tackle Cooper Hackett.
