With all four Wild Card series now over — three of which ended in two-game sweeps — just eight teams remain alive in the pursuit of a World Series title, with the Guardians, Rays, Dodgers and Brewers entering the picture after watching the first round from home.

Some of baseball’s biggest stars, from Shohei Ohtani and Jacob Misiorowski to Junior Caminero and Cam Schlittler, will be on full display for the division series. No. 6 Chicago White Sox vs. No. 2 Cleveland Guardians

You can certainly debate whether the Guardians (85 regular-season wins) or White Sox (84 regular-season wins) really belong on the postseason stage this season, with neither AL Central squad owning a ton of big-name star power. Regardless, the fact is that Cleveland and Chicago both find themselves with an opportunity to make a serious postseason run in a weaker AL bracket — and the White Sox have already taken advantage.

Chicago enters the ALDS the momentum of its first postseason series win since the 2005 World Series, proving in the Wild Card round that it has the power and pitching depth to challenge opponents. Cleveland, though, has better top-end starting pitching in Parker Messick, Gavin Williams and Tanner Bibee.

These two teams are well familiar with each other; the White Sox won the season series, 7-6. Cleveland’s offense isn’t very threatening, ranking last among all postseason teams in team OPS (.696) — this matchup will likely come down to how early the White Sox’s bats can get to Guardians starters.
