The Brooklyn Nets look like an interesting team ahead of the 2026-27 season. With the Houston Rockets holding the rights to their first-round picks in 2027, it seems the Nets are incentivized to do their best to reach the Playoffs.

Tanking would only benefit Houston rather than securing a lottery-level talent in the 2027 NBA Draft. With the Nets securing Mikel Brown Jr. in the 2026 Draft, the team might have a star-level talent who is ready to contribute immediately.
Mikel Brown Jr. thinks he can lead the Nets to surprise success in his rookie season
With his skill set as an offensive player, it is easy to see why Brown was such an exciting prospect. Now, he can do that with the Nets, where he has the green light to keep shooting just like Egor Demin did in the 2025-26 season.
However, this time around, they have lofty goals because they don’t want to lose the pick. Despite being a rookie, it seems Brown is ready for the moment, and he wants to shock the NBA by performing well in a pursuit for a postseason berth.

Brown has been talking to new Nets power forward Julius Randle, who is ready to take over as one of the stars after the trade. While that is still unofficial, it seems Randle is already preparing for a big season with the Nets.
“I was talking to Julius Randle about it the other day, and he told me, ‘We’re gonna shock the world.’ That’s what we plan on doing,” Brown said about the Nets’ goals in his introductory press conference.
Considering the Nets are motivated to play for something in the 2026-27 season, they will be looking to shock the NBA world. They have low expectations, but with Brown, Randle, and even Michael Porter Jr., they have a decent roster that can compete.
