The Detroit Lions (2-1) and Carolina Panthers (1-2) were back on the practice field on Thursday as they prepare for their primetime matchup on Sunday night. The Lions got some good news Thursday as starting EDGE DJ Wonnum returned to practice, a great sign for Detroit’s pass rush.
Let’s take a look at Thursday’s injury report and get you up to date with what we know.

No practice
Bartch has now missed five practices and a game, and even if he could return to practice on Friday, he likely wouldn’t be able to acclimate quickly enough to play in Sunday’s game. Even if Bartch is unavailable, the Lions still roster eight other offensive linemen, meaning they’ll still have enough healthy linemen to receive the game-day roster bonus.
Limited practice
Reed is nursing a rib injury, but he has been able to get some limited practice time in this week, which is an encouraging sign that he will also have a chance to play in this game. Panthers quarterback Bryce Young has been terrific as a passer this season, and having Reed available to start would be a huge relief for Detroit.

EDGE DJ Wonnum (back) — upgraded from no practice
Wonnum returned to a full practice Thursday, and if he can play Sunday night, he’ll give a big boost to the Lions’ defense, especially their pass rush. Last week, the Lions slightly altered their personnel usage along the defensive line, and Wonnum benefited by getting extra playing time; he repaid the Lions by producing two sacks. With questions about the Panthers’ pass protection and two starting offensive linemen on the injury report, Wonnum could be an impact player again.
