Jahmyr Gibbs scored on an 11-yard pass from Jared Goff to put the Detroit Lions ahead of the New York Jets by a touchdown with 2:25 remaining in the fourth quarter. But with the Lions’ defense continuing to struggle, that left plenty of time for the Jets to drive for the tying TD.
On fourth-and-6 from the Detroit 23-yard line, Smith hit Garrett Wilson for a 22-yard gain. Lions cornerback D.J. Reed was flagged for pass interference but since Wilson made the catch and kept his feet in bounds, that was declined.

Additionally, Wilson was ruled short of the goal line and the Jets challenged the call. Replay review showed that Wilson fell in bounds and inside the pylon, and the call was overruled for a touchdown. Smith then connected with Sterling Shepard for a 2-point conversion to tie the score at 24-24 with 4:06 remaining.
Detroit put the Jets in position for the tying score by going for it on fourth-and-1 from the New York 45-yard line. But Jahmyr Gibbs was stopped for no gain by Kingsley Enagbare. The Lions were also called for an illegal formation so even if Gibbs had reached the line to gain, the play would have been negated.
