The New York Jets picked up a much-needed victory over the Cleveland Browns, winning 17-12 in Week 5. It ended a three-game losing streak. The successful rushing attack and breakout game from Braelon Allen was a big reason why.

Allen rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown via 24 carries. This Jets offensive line managed to play bully-ball up front all afternoon long. Allen’s 116 yards were a career-high result, marking the first time he’s surpassed triple digit rushing yards throughout his three-year career.

Star running back Breece Hall was sidelined for a second consecutive contest due to an ongoing quad injury. In three straight defeats, the Jets had failed to rush for more than 67 yards as a collective offense. Versus the Browns, they outgained them 134-96 on the ground. That’s the difference between winning and losing.

Allen’s 4.8 yards per attempt was also a career-high mark in a game where he’s received 12+ carries. The former Wisconsin standout gained 108 yards after contact, according to Pro Football Focus. He averaged 4.50 yards after contact per attempt while forcing eight missed tackles.

The Jets got a big-time performance from Allen in Week 5. We’ll monitor Hall’s status ahead of Week 6 versus the New England Patriots. Whether Allen or Hall is the first-choice back for that divisional game, the Jets need to continue generating rushing lanes for their backs.
