Liverpool‘s midfield has been an obvious issue early in the tenure of Andoni Iraola.
The Spaniard has found success in games despite struggling to find balance in the middle of the park, with the Reds often struggling to control the midfield battle.

Several midfielders have been linked with winter Merseyside moves and, after Curtis Jones was allowed to leave for a relatively low fee this summer, it seems like a rebuild is on the cards in Liverpool’s midfield department.
A number of the Reds’ current midfield have been linked with moves away but the exit most spoken about is Alexis Mac Allister‘s.
Since making his distain at not being offered a new contract this summer public, rumours have swirled that the Argentine is not far from an exit.
Now, despite starting the season as the Reds’ most in-form midfielder, a new report has claimed that the World Cup winner has been told there are no plans to extend his deal any time soon.

Football Insider are reporting that the club have no plans to offer Mac Allister a new contract, with the Anfield hierarchy not viewing his long-term future as a priority.
The 27-year-old’s current deal doesn’t expire until 2028, so there is no immediate risk of losing him for nothing, but it feels as though Mac Allister’s time as a Liverpool player will come to an end before then.
Multiple clubs are reportedly interested in signing the midfielder and, even with just 18 months remaining on his deal, Liverpool will feel confident of making a profit on the £35 million they paid for Mac Allister in 2023.
A new deal would almost certainly take Mac Allister to the wrong side of 30, but the Argentine’s performances this season will have made Liverpool well aware that he cannot be sold without a replacement in place.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch have both received bumper new deals recently and it does feel as though if the club wanted to extend Mac Allister a deal would have already been discussed.
The writing appears to be on the wall, and it seems to be a matter of ‘when’ not ‘if’ Mac Allister will be sold.
