Hunter Wohler’s tenure with the Colts

The Colts selected Wohler in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL draft. He was the 234th overall selection.

Recapping Hunter Wohler’s 2025 season

Unfortunately, Wohler’s rookie year was over before it began after he suffered a season-ending Lisfranc injury in the Colts’ preseason game with Green Bay.

Before the injury last summer, Wohler appeared to be on his way to carving out a role as the Colts’ third safety. The Colts remain very bullish on his ability to contribute to this year’s team.

“Hunter on the back end playing safety, the ball just found him in training camp,” Shane Steichen said at the NFL combine. “He had a great sense, a great feel playing the coverages that we were playing, but he was always in the right spot at the right time. He had a hell of a camp.”

Looking ahead to 2026 for Hunter Wohler

Wohler is among those competing for the starting safety role next to Cam Bynum, although it looks like rookie AJ Haulcy is the favorite to earn that playing time.

That said, Wohler could still earn snaps in defensive-back-heavy formations, where he can provide a coverage presence but also help out against the run. Wohler could emerge as a regular special teams contributor as well.
