With the recent controversy surrounding footage of Seattle Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald revealing a conversation he had with Denver Broncos HC Sean Payton, the former issued an apology.
In a recent interview, Macdonald revealed that Payton accused him of spying on their training after he had used clips fans had shared from Broncos training sessions that the Seahawks used to prepare for them.

These comments from Macdonald garnered a lot of controversy, as many felt that he was trying to portray the Broncos head coach in a negative light.

Mike Macdonald admits Sean Payton controversy is a ‘lesson learned’
Speaking to reporters ahead of the Seattle Seahawks’ game against the Washington Commanders this weekend, HC Mike Macdonald addressed the recent controversy surrounding him and Sean Payton.
Macdonald apologised for the footage of his comments being leaked, noting that he had reached out to the Denver Broncos coach. The Seahawks HC admitted that it was a learning moment for him.
“It’s something that I didn’t intend for public use. I thought it was the most appropriate thing to reach out to Sean and apologise to him for having that be public when it wasn’t meant to.

“It was something they have to deal with in real time; it wasn’t really on their end. That’s really where you’re like, ‘C—.’ But it’s a lesson learned.
“Honestly, I’ve got to be better in that moment. I’m responsible for what I say no matter the circumstances. Whether you’re mic’d up or you’re not, whether you have a certain type of understanding. I fell short in that moment. It stings for me, frankly.
“It’s something that I’m definitely going to learn from. Just a good example. You’ve got to take responsibility for the things that you say.
“Sean was great. I respect the heck out of him and his program; always have. He’s a phenomenal football coach. It’s been great to get to know him in the owners’ meetings the last couple of years. He was awesome.

“We’re both looking forward to moving forward from this. I really appreciated how he handled it… I think it’s fair to say that if I’m talking, I’m responsible for what I’m saying.”
It appears both Macdonald and Payton have put this situation behind them, choosing to move forward and let bygones be bygones.
