The Wildcats will travel to face the Coyotes on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2028, at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, South Dakota, in what will be the first meeting between Abilene Christian and South Dakota in football.
ACU will then host South Dakota in the second game of the home-and-home series on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2029, at Wildcat Stadium in Abilene.
“This series with South Dakota is proof of our continued commitment to raising the standard of Abilene Christian football,” Lassiter said.
“We believe one of the ways to elevate ACU to the premier level of the Football Championship Subdivision is to play the best teams in the country. These kinds of games bring excitement to our program and fanbase, and give our student-athletes the opportunity to measure themselves against a top-level opponent.”

The South Dakota Coyotes — a Missouri Valley Conference squad that currently holds the No. 6 ranking in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 — represent the latest in a string of tough nonconference opponents lining Abilene Christian’s football schedule.
ACU boasts a 2-2 all-time record against Missouri Valley Conference teams, but lost their most recent matchup against an MVC program when the Wildcats fell in a 51-31 loss to North Dakota State in the second round of the 2024 FCS Playoffs.

The Wildcats have played 16 games against ranked opponents since the start of the 2024 season, six of which were in marquee nonconference games. ACU holds a 9-7 record in games against Top 25 opponents during that stretch.
Abilene Christian’s 2028 matchup against the USD will mark the Wildcats’ first game in program history played in the state of South Dakota.
ACU is also currently scheduled to face the Texas A&M Aggies at Kyle Field in College Station in nonconference play during the 2028 season.
