Ahead of the arrival of his new ping pong drama, Timothée Chalamet has just delivered a major update on his next Dune movie. Collider was in attendance for a recent event where the young actor sat down for a chat with Adam Sandler to talk about their previous and upcoming projects, and Chalamet confirmed that he has wrapped filming on Dune: Part Three. The film just began production at the start of July, and this marks the quickest production on any Dune movie under legendary sci-fi director Denis Villeneuve. Villeneuve shared the first behind-the-scenes image from Dune: Part Three over the summer to confirm that cameras were rolling.
At the time of writing, Dune: Part Three is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. It currently shares a release date with Avengers: Doomsday, but one of these is likely to shift dates before the dust settles. If not, we could be looking at the next Barbenheimer phenomenon, and one that could live up to the hype, unlike what the world tried to create with Wicked and Gladiator II. Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday are expected to be two of the biggest blockbusters of 2026, and it doesn’t seem to make sense for them to both be released on the same weekend.
In addition to Timothée Chalamet reprising his role as Paul Atreides, Dune: Part Three will also star Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Zendaya as Chani, and Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan. Jason Momoa will also reprise his Dune: Part One role as Duncan Idaho, and newcomers such as Robert Pattinson have also joined the fun. After a brief appearance in Part Two, Anya Taylor-Joy is also expected to step into a larger role in Dune: Part Three.
When Does ‘Dune: Part Three’ Take Place?
After the first Dune movies took place one after the other, Dune: Part Three will feature a significant time jump forward. The third Dune movie will take place 12 years after Dune: Part Two, which is to be expected for those who are familiar with Frank Herbert’s novels. The first two Dune movies adapt the first book in Herbert’s novel series, and the third movie will adapt the second book, Dune: Messiah. Dune: Part Three will follow Paul’s journey as Emperor and his war with the great houses, as well as his marriage to Princess Irulan and his continued relationship with Chani.
