All Her Fault has proven to be a major winner for Peacock. The twisty miniseries, based on Andrea Mara‘s novel of the same name, is currently the #1 show on the streamer a week after its release. Its premise even has the kind of hook that makes for must-watch television: after Marissa Irvine (Sarah Snook) goes to pick up her son Milo from a playdate, she learns that Milo has gone missing. Marissa and her husband Peter (Jake Lacy) launch a search for Milo, with help from Jenny (Dakota Fanning), the mother whose house Marissa last left Milo at. As the investigation stretches on, it’s revealed that the Irvines have plenty of skeletons in their closet, and so do their friends and family.

In addition to grabbing audiences’ attention, All Her Fault clicked with critics as it scored a 77% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This wave of acclaim raises the question: Will All Her Fault get a second season? It wouldn’t be the first time that a limited series was retooled into an ongoing one, as hits like Squid Game and Severance were only meant to last for a single season. At the same time, All Her Fault might not join those shows, especially since its story was wrapped up by the Season 1 finale.

Milo’s kidnapping lasts roughly halfway through All Her Fault, until he’s finally found and returned home. By that point, Marissa’s life had devolved into chaos. Tabloids insinuate that she faked the kidnapping to secure a fortune for herself, with Jenny being her only source of support. Eventually, the prime suspect in the kidnapping is revealed to be Carrie Finch (Sophia Lillis), a nanny who works for Jenny and had an unhealthy fixation on Milo. With the help of her ex-boyfriend Kyle (Dominic Masterson) and father Rob (Erroll Shand), Carrie manages to take Milo until Peter finally discovers where she’s hiding out, recuing Milo and killing Rob in the process.

The finale of All Her Fault finds Carrie sneaking into the Irvines’ house with a gun, but she’s not there to hurt them or to take Milo away. She reveals to Marissa that her real name is Josephine “Josie” Murphy, and that she survived a horrific car crash involving the Irvines six years ago. Their newborn son had died, which led Peter to switch bodies with Josie’s son and raise him as their own. A struggle between Josie and Peter leads to Josie being fatally shot – but not before she accidentally kills Marissa’s friend and business partner, Colin (Jay Ellis). At Colin’s funeral, Peter suffers an allergic reaction after kissing Marissa, as she ate something containing soy, and dies. Flashbacks reveal that she intentionally meant to kill him, replacing his EpiPen with an expired model and taking out the emergency medical kit from their car.

The Cast and Crew of ‘All Her Fault’ Aren’t Sure If There Will Be A Second Season

By the time All Her Fault ends, it’s wrapped up all of its major plot points. Peter has received punishment for his crimes, Marissa has literally gotten away with murder, and Detective Alcaras (Michael Peña) has figured out Milo’s true parentage but keeps it to himself. Even the final shot, which features Marissa and Jenny sipping wine as their kids have a playdate, feels final. Sarah Snook discussed the possibility of a second season of All Her Fault with The Hollywood Reporter, mentioning that there were still avenues the series could explore:

[The show’s] attractive[ness] in a lot of ways is that it’s a limited series. You come in at such a high-tension moment, and then when you leave, it seems resolved. But there is always going to be questions: How does Milo grow up in this new dynamic? When does he learn the information about his past and his parents and his true history? How does Marissa deal with that?

Showrunner Megan Gallagher is also open to the idea of a second season, telling Collider, “I would be up for that, so we’ll see.” If All Her Fault is renewed for a second season, Gallagher should focus on bringing the same sense of suspense that she did to Season 1.

All Her Fault is streaming on Peacock.
