We are just eight days away from the theatrical release and a few weeks from the Netflix debut of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the third installment in Academy Award–nominated filmmaker Rian Johnson‘s murder mystery franchise. Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc is back to solve another puzzling mystery, this time supported by a typically star-studded cast led by the likes of Challengers star Josh O’Connor, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, and many more.

With this third movie marking the second of a two-sequel deal with Netflix following the huge success of Knives Out, questions are already being raised about the future of the franchise, even before this latest entry has made its public bow. Well, it is perhaps no secret that Johnson and Craig would want to make more Knives Out movies, but exactly how close are we to that reality? In a recent interview, Johnson admitted that he and Craig “are already starting to formulate” another movie, saying, “what could the next one be if we do another one?” “Creatively, I feel energized after making this one,” he added, with there seemingly still plenty of life in this franchise yet.

‘Wake Up Dead Man’ is Already a Hit With Critics

A future fourth Knives Out movie would have a high bar to hit, especially in the casting department, with there a chance that, should the franchise continue indefinitely, Johnson and co would run out of stars to cast. Joining the aforementioned O’Connor, Brolin, Kunis, and, of course, Craig in Wake Up Dead Man are Glenn Close, Kerry Washington, Daryl McCormack, Andrew Scott, Thomas Haden Church, Jeremy Renner, and Cailee Spaeny. The film is already receiving plenty of praise following its Toronto International Film Festival debut, with Collider’s Ross Bonaime labeling it “a masterful tale” in his official review, adding it is “one that hits everything we love about this series, while still finding new angles to approach in this world. Wake Up Dead Man proves that you should always have faith in Rian Johnson.” A synopsis for Wake Up Dead Man reads:

“After a shocking and seemingly impossible murder rocks the town, local police chief Geraldine Scott (Mila Kunis) seeks the services of renowned detective Blanc (of course) to unravel a mystery that defies all logic.”

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery debuts on Netflix on December 12, 2025. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for the latest updates.
