Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has cleared his final hurdle before Saturday’s comeback bout against WBC super middleweight champion Christian Mbilli.

Alvarez and Mbilli both met their required weights Friday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, rendering their championship bout official. Alvarez, amid the revelry of mariachi music and WBO featherweight championship Rafael Espinoza belting out tunes on the microphone, came in slightly lighter at 167.6 pounds, while the heavily-muscled Cameroonian-Frenchman, Mbilli, tipped the scales at a 167.8 pounds.

Afterward, the two faced off in their final staredown before Saturday’s title bout.

“This is very important for me,” Alvarez said through a translator. “I’ve been doing this for the last 21 years. I won my first title 16 years ago, so it’s very important for me to be here, to take that title, and obviously get back into that world championship corner.

“He’s never faced anybody like that, so tomorrow I’m going to teach him exactly what it is to face somebody like me.”
