Did Notre Dame make the right move with Ohio State WR transfers?

Now that we are four games in the 2026, it’s pretty easy to see which transfer players have made impacts for Notre Dame, but a pair of herald receivers aren’t included in that group.

The Irish brought in a pair of Ohio State wide receivers during the cycle in Mylan Graham and Quincy Porter. Both of them were considered 5-star prospects coming out of high school, and Graham is from Fort Wayne. At the time it made perfect sense, with how well the Buckeyes have done producing elite talent at the position, grabbing a few of their players who weren’t seeing the field seemed like a perfect marriage with Notre Dame.

Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out for the Irish. Graham has been healthy, but hasn’t been as impactful as was expected. On the year he has just three catches for 32 yards without a score. Not the production that anyone expected.

As for Porter, the New Jersey native came from a familiar school to Notre Dame, Bergen Catholic. It hasn’t been a production issue for him, he just hasn’t been able to see the field. Porter, on Monday, was ruled out for the remainder of the year with another knee surgery, one that has been bothering him since the spring.

It was hard to image these two having a minimal impact for the Irish, but here we are. Notre Dame was very selective in taking transfer this cycle, as the hit rate has dropped. Defensive tackles Tionne Gray and Francis Brewu have been a great additions, so have nickels Jayden Sanders and DJ McKinney.

Like recruiting, not all players pan out. Fortunately for Notre Dame, there’s plenty of time for Graham and Porter to turn around their careers in South Bend. They just won’t be immediate impact transfers like some of their classmates.
