Jane Krakowski is making some sacrifices for her role in Broadway’s Oh, Mary!

On the Monday, Nov. 17 episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, the actress, 57, opened up about the unexpected consequence of playing Mary Todd Lincoln in Cole Escola’s Tony-winning play.

“The thing that surprised me the most is how heavy the dress actually is,” Krakowski told host Seth Meyers of her costume.

“Cole and all the other Marys made it look like they were just flitting and flying around the stage like it was light,” she continued. “But what I’ve come to know now, doing the show for a month of performances… I have bruises everywhere on my body. But I felt no pain doing the show.”

“It must be the applause,” she joked, before adding, “I come home and there’s bruises everywhere and I’m like, ‘But I didn’t feel I hurt myself at all.'”

In September, it was announced that Krakowski would join the outrageous hit comedy for an eight-week limited engagement from Oct. 14 through Dec. 7.

After a successful Off-Broadway run, Oh, Mary! opened on Broadway in July 2024 at the Lyceum Theatre. It quickly became one of the season’s biggest hits, breaking box office records and in 2025, taking home two Tony awards; Best Leading Actor of a Play for creator and star Cole Escola and Best Direction of a Play for director Sam Pinkleton.

In addition to Escola, the titular role has been taken on by a slew of performers, including Emmy nominees Tituss Burgess and Betty Gilpin and two-time RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon.

In October, Krakowski told PEOPLE what an “honor” it is to play Mary.

“I think the way the show has moved into the zeitgeist and popularity of the community, that it is an honor to be a Mary,” she said. “So I am thrilled to step into the bratty curls of my fellow performers. And I think it is honoring the original, taking in the comedic genius of all that have come before and then living and breathing it for yourself with your own comedic lens.”

The star also reflected on turning 57 on Oct. 11, sharing that she would be in rehearsal all that day.

“There’s nothing more celebratory than for an actor, I think, to be working on your birthday, as kind of a sign of that we’re in good days,” she shared. “So I’m very thrilled to get to rehearse all day and celebrate with my Oh, Mary! cast and crew. And then probably have not too big of a small dinner celebration, because I’ve got to go back to rehearsal the next day. We’re in the thick of it. But yeah, it feels like the start of a good year by having this opening in the same week as my birthday.”
