It’s time to vote for the Montgomery area boys and girls athlete of the week, sponsored by Vance Law Firm.
Carver’s Maurice Conner won the boys poll last week with 45% of votes after winning the AHSAA outdoor track and Class 7A state championship in the 100-meter dash (10.63) and finishing second in the 200-meter dash (21.35). On the girls side, Montgomery Catholic’s Haylei Mason collected 97% of votes after claiming a pair of AHSAA 4A state championships in the 100-meter hurdles (14.66) and 300-meter hurdles (44.78).
Nominees for athlete of the week come from the top performers of the week before. To nominate a top performer, have your coach email sports@montgomeryadvertiser.com.
Voting will last until Thursday at noon. Votes will not be accepted via email, only in the polls below.

Montgomery area boys athlete of the week nominations
- Lee-Scott Academy’s David Beard finished 2nd in the AHSAA 3A state championships.
- Montgomery Academy’s Jackson McIntyre finished 3rd at the AHSAA 3A state championships.
- Montgomery Academy goalkeeper Grady Ming made 17 saves in the state championship match.
- Montgomery Academy’s Cade Segars was named MVP after helping power his team to a 2-1 win against defending champion Oak Mountain in the AHSAA 7A state championship match.
- Pike Liberal Arts’ Pruitt Vaughn went 2-for-3 in a 2-1 loss to Vincent in the AHSAA 2A championship game.
Montgomery area girls athlete of the week nominations
- Saint James’ Kaitlyn Hudson scored two of the team’s three runs in a 4-3, 9-inning loss to Wicksburg in the AHSAA 3A state championship game.
- Providence Christian’s Kamdyn Kelley finished T-2nd at 3-over-par 147 (72-75) in the AHSAA 1A/3A state championships.
- Pike Liberal Arts’ Sarah Strickland knocked in the lone run in the AHSAA 2A loser’s-round bracket, a 9-1 loss to Pisgah.
- Alabama Christian Academy’s Julie Waldo was low medalist with a 7-under-par 137 to win the AHSAA 1A/3A state individual championship. Waldo was the defending state champion, giving her back-to-back titles in 2024 and again in 2025. She shot 68 Monday and 69 Tuesday to win by 10 strokes.
- Pike Road’s Beka Yang finished 2nd (71-76/149) at 5-over-par at the AHSAA 6A state championships.
