The Minnesota Vikings and their secondary have become one of the strongest assets of their team, not just the defense.
One reason is that Brian Flores has constantly shown that he can develop players within the unit and get the most out of them. One of those players, Josh Metellus, is poised for his biggest year yet after Camryn Bynum’s departure. He signed with the Colts in free agency in March.
However, during OTAs, he has been limited during activities with no clear designation or explanation as to why. Sports Illustrated’s Will Ragatz explains his limited role as a potential hold-in due to a contract situation.
He writes, “The logical assumption is that his lack of involvement has something to do with his current contract situation. Metellus is heading into the final year of the deal he signed prior to the 2023 season, which turned out to be an extremely team-friendly contract when he emerged as a borderline star in a full-time defensive role under Flores. There have been extension talks between the two sides this offseason, but no deal has yet been reached.”
Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has shown that he is willing to lock up the players who are a part of the team’s long-term plans. The roster has been overhauled under his tenure, but players like Metellus have been brought along so they have already shown they are invested with their time.
Now they just need to show how invested they are financially.
